Get Your Floyd On Challenge

LindArt2

I love Richard Wright’s work, and when he passed, I wanted to do a tribute to his amazing and subtle style. I captured a bit of it in this piece, but I was also very satisfied with the Nick Mason style percussion. I’ve put it away for years, but I thought recently that this might be fun to play with.

So I posted this original piece, The Mason Wright, and invited musicians from all over the world to add their bit of Floyd magic to the tune, and I got a pretty good response!

Soon I had responses from some pretty great talents. Here’s what they did:

From Alun Vaughan we got a seventies heavy sound:

From Tzuriel Kastel we got a psychedelic Wright:

From Steve Morton we got his passionate Richard Wright tribute:

From Roger Palmeri we got his scintillating guitar:

From Chrissie Caulfield we got her soulful violin:

We will continue to add pieces after they have been featured!

Got Floyd? The challenge is still open, so contact me, @napadude on Twitter or Soundcloud, to add your bit of Pinky goodness to the tune. So far we are able to easily drop out the bass, or the electric piano. You can use the original as your basis to add a guitar or other part to all of the original parts. Go nuts, and let’s see what you can do!

How to participate:

You will need to have a soundcloud account to participate. This is because the service makes it so easy to share and collaborate. After you let me know, I can let you in to one of the three privately available versions to download it.

There are two ways you can do it:

  1. You can record your part(s) from the beginning, leaving any silence you might wish, and send just your track back and I will import it and mix. The length of the song from the beginning should be unchanged, so that it will import smoothly.
  2. You can just create your own mix and send it back that way. If you have the capability, feel free to cut and paste and whatever.
  • Upload the track to your own soundcloud account as a private file, and share it with me, available for download. I’ll upload your finished track and process accordingly.
  • Completed tracks will be featured on scatterfilter, with a short bio. Let me know about any pages, bandcamp, blogs, or anything else you’d like out there. If you have a music page you would like featured in the “ListenFilter” section of my sidebar, let me know so I can grab art for the link.
  • Please post any finished versions of the song only after we feature it here. I love to share credit with you, and please do your own thing with our shared composition, but please wait until we post it here.

And thanks for participating.
